Life in high school was confusing and challenging for me. My parents divorced when I was a freshman.
I first met Kim that year, about the time I learned of the divorce. My parents took it hard. It was difficult for them to be there for me with all of the drama they were facing. Kim was there for me EVERY SINGLE DAY.
Through my challenges and success, through my tears and happiness, through teenage girl drama to my school functions. She showed me love and gave me all that she could. She lectured me when I needed it, encouraged and guided me where necessary, gave me food to eat and an open house to sleep in, transportation when it was too dark to ride my bike, but most importantly she gave me an example of what a true loving human being can do. A loving person can make someone feel better about themselves, feel appreciated, feel safe, feel loved, feel important, feel beautiful, and feel smart. I
've learned from her how I should treat others to allow them to feel the same. She has inspired me to help others in need and be there for those who need love in their lives. She's special to me. She always will be. She's part of the reason I've become who I am, a person who cares for others, a person who strives to keep smiles on the faces of those around her, a person who gives encouragement and praise, a person who truly cares about the people around her, a person that goes out of her way, putting others first.
She's the reason why others are smiling. She knows she meant a lot I me. But I don't know if I've ever told her this. It's been 10 years since I was out of high school. I've only seen her a few times since.
But I know we both hold a special place in our heart for the other. <3
