Did you know that besides being Pi day, today is Albert Einstein’s Birthday? He would have been 136 today!
We are big fans of his innovation and dedication here at LovePop and we really wanted to send him a LovePop card for his birthday, but we will just have to settle for a blog post highlighting some interesting fun facts of his life.
He was born in 1879 in Ulm, Germany on, you guessed it, March 14th!
He decided he didn’t want to be German anymore in 1896 and he lived as a “stateless” person for 5 years before becoming Swiss.
He loved playing the violin even though photographs of him holding his violin are held up in music classes as “what not to do”
In 1921, he won the Nobel Prize for his work on the photoelectric effect. He was more interested in his work on relativity even though it remained a controversial topic.
Einstein left Germany for a final time in 1932 when he emigrated to the US. He left Germany only one month before Adolf Hitler came into power. Perfect timing!
In 1952, Einstein turned down an offer from David Ben Gurion (Israel’s premier) to become president of Israel. Wow!
He became interested in a unified field theory and pursued it until his death. After he died, physicists began to unravel the missing bits of his unified field theory.
He passed away from an aneurysm in 1955.
Also of note, today is a special Pi Day! Its 3/14/15 = 3.1415...!
