Minneapolis is an incredible, magical place to live or visit. It's part of the Twin Cities and is home of both hot dish and more than 11,000 beautiful lakes, dontcha know? We love Minneapolis for its enthusiastic golfing culture, one-of-a-kind spin on comfort food, and extremely snowy winters! Here is our curated list of 12 Things to Do this Holiday Season in Minneapolis and St. Paul:

1. Minneapolis Light Shows:

  • York Avenue Light Show at 1526 York Avenue (November 24th - December 31st from 5-10 pm)
  • Holiday Tree Lighting at Union Depot (December 1st from 5:30 pm)
  • Anoka Christmas Tree Lighting at City Hall Parking Lot Plaza (December 1st from 3 - 7 pm)
  • South Saint Paul Holidaze Celebration (December 17th from 4 pm)

Why: It doesn't truly feel like the holidays without being surrounded by magical, twinkling decorations! Welcome all the beautiful lights this holiday season and catch all the tree lightings and celebrations this season.

2. Hometown for the Holidays
When: November 17th - December 31st
Where: Main Street Stillwater, Stillwater
Why: Visit the picturesque St Croix River, for some family-friendly activities and indulge in the beauty of its elegance and holiday decorations! Listen to some Christmas carolers, watch Santa stroll through the streets, ride a horsedrawn carriage and more!

3. Gingerbread Wonderland
When: November 17th - January 6th
Where: Norway House, 913 E. Franklin Ave., Minneapolis
Why: Eat some tasty gingerbread cookies, shop elegant ornament decorations and enjoy the holiday magic of the Gingerbread Wonderland festival!

4. Wells Fargo WinterSkate
When: November 18th - February 11th (Closed on December 25th & January 1st)
Where: Rice Park & Landmark Park, 109 W. 4th St., St. Paul
Why: Go for a spin around the rink with all your family and friends while enjoying the festive and selfie-ready trees and decorations!

5. Holidazzle
When: November 23rd - December 23rd (every Thursday through Sunday) 
Where: Loring Park, Minneapolis
Why: Local food, art, and entertainers  — A.K.A. the things that make MSP and the holiday season so great, all in one place! Need we say more?

6. Pictures with Santa
When: November 24th - December 24th
Where: Mall of America, Bloomington
Why: Take a classic picture with the big guy this Christmas and get your must-have gifts next to your name on the Good List.

7. Mall of America’s Holiday Music Festival
When: November 25th - December 26th
Where: Mall of America, Bloomington
Why:  Spend an afternoon at the mall and listen to the live performances of some your favorite, memorable jingles and catchy holiday classics!

8. North Pole Express Holiday Train
When: November 29th - December 2nd & December 5th - December 9th

Why: Experience the magic of Santa and his crew of elves while on a real steam engine! It's the best holiday fun for the whole family!

9. European Christmas Market
When: Weekends from November 30th - December 10th
Where: Union Depot (East Plaza), 240 E Kellogg Blvd, St Paul
Why: The charming Christmas Event is a European inspired market known in German as Christkindlmarkt. It's the perfect place to take a stroll, talk to friendly vendors, eat sizzling sausages, and find unique holiday gifts!

10. Holiday Flower Show at Como Park Zoo & Conservatory
When: December 1st, 2018 - January 6th, 2019 from 10 am
Where: Marjorie McNeely Conservatory, 1225 Estabrook Dr., St. Paul
Why: The annual Holiday Flower Show began in 1925, so why not attend, take part in the tradition and view some of the most elegant and beautiful flowers in MSP?

11. KIMPTON The Grand Hotel Holiday Market
When: December 5th at 3:30 - 7 pm
Where: Kimpton Grand Hotel Lobby, 615 2nd Avenue South Minneapolis
Why: Stay cozy while shopping with a cocktail and gourmet small bite in hand at this indoor holiday shopping fair. 

12. Nordic Julemarket
When: December 7th, 3 - 8 pm; December 8th, noon - 8 pm; December 9th, noon - 6 pm
Where: Utepils Brewing Co., 1455 W. Lake St., Minneapolis
Why: The Nordic Julemarket celebrates the Christmas traditions of Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland, and Denmark! Learn more about Nordic cultures and browse fabulous creations from nearly 30 local artisans!
